Weng has skied since she learned how to walk. She started competing in cross-country skiing when she was seven years old, but was also involved in other sports, such as track and field, soccer and handball. She first entered the World Cup in 2009, with the 10km individual race at Beitostølen (NOR), while she was still a junior. At the 2010 FIS Junior World Championships, Weng earned the silver medal in the skiathlon and helped Norway to gold in the relay. Her major international breakthrough season was 2011-12, when she earned her first individual World Cup podium: third place in the 10km skiathlon in Lahti (FIN). The following week, she was second overall in the World Cup minitour in Falun (SWE). Since then, she has earned 50 World Cup podiums, including three individual victories. Weng has a bonze medal from the skiathlon at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi (RUS), as well as a top-10 finish in the 10km and helped Norway to fifth place in the relay during the same Winter Games. At the 2013 World Championships in Val di Fiemme (ITA), her first at the senior level, Weng helped Norway to gold in the relay and won the bronze medal in the skiathlon. At the 2015 World Championships in Falun (SWE), Weng again helped Norway to gold in the relay.
